Most people are familiar with the word ozone, but that is where the familiarity ends. In nature, ozone is among the most essential chemicals on the planet, existing as a gaseous component of the upper atmosphere. The Earths ozone layer protects us from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays and without it, life on earth would likely be impossible.
