November 2005: Volume 47, Number 11
Rising to the occasion
by Karen R. Smith
It is my great pleasure to inform you that I have joined the Board of Directors of the Pacific Water Quality Association. I am honored to be a part of this group of water treatment and purification professionals dedicated to the highest industry standards and to providing consumer choices in an environment of sound legislative management of our most precious natural resource.
I was amazed to discover that there are dealers, manufacturers and suppliers in the western states that are not yet PWQA members. Take the opportunity to rectify that in person at our 48th Annual Convention and Western States Trade Show, November 2-4 in Riverside, Calif. at the historic Mission Inn. Your participation will help your company and its employees, through seminars and certification opportunities, through networking and through our ongoing commitment to legislative activism. The trade show is a sell-out, so even if you cannot find the time to attend the entire conference, make sure you stop by the show floor!
I'm sure it comes as no surprise that we at WC&P are committed to helping the water treatment and purification industry. For nearly 50 years, weve been the standard of excellence for news and information. If you want the news first, you read WC&P. Like the article on Spiral Wound ElectroDialysis Ion Exchange (SWEDI) by Dr. Avijit Dey that we carried back in June of this year. We're flattered by the fact that Water Technology chose to reprint it in their October issue for those who might have missed it.
Even five months later it is a fine article and a very interesting process.
Do please respond promptly to our Buyers Guide information request forms, which start going out the end of this year. We remain the industry standard here as well; be sure to check on any other so-called Buyers Guides some ads dont even take you to a water industry magazine at all!
We're improving the ease of getting into this year's Guide. You'll receive an email containing the complete registration form just enter the data you want listed and hit 'send' and we'll do the rest! If we dont have an email address on file for your company, youll receive the questionnaire via fax or regular mail. Last year, WC&Ps Buyers Guide was the most extensive resource in the water treatment industry and this year it is shaping up to be better than ever.
CBS' Andy Rooney presented his take on bottled water in a segment airing on 60 Minutes on October 16; apparently, he was unfamiliar with reverse osmosis. We sent him a complete set of articles explaining RO along with a stack of our magazines. Rest assured, he knows all about it now!
We'll be making some calendar changes in the coming year, so that our issues reflect events and activities a bit better in the months ahead. We'll bring the full editorial schedule next month. Of course, some things don't change your new products, ideas, case histories, technical papers, promotions and the like are always on time.
As the holiday season officially kicks off with Thanksgiving weekend at the end of this month, I want to begin it here by thanking everyone in this industry that has helped throughout the many disaster-stricken regions with donations of expertise, money and equipment. So many calamities this year left survivors without drinking water; many would not have made it without your help. As you join your friends and family to give thanks, know that many will be saluting your generosity -- and raising a glass of water as a result.
See you in Riverside November 2-4!
