A device for separating solid particles or impurities from water by passing it through a porous substance. Filters are used remove iron, silt, taste, odor, color, etc., from water before it is fed into the softener or supply lines of the consumer. There are mechanical, adsorptive, oxidizing and neutralizing filters, available as media beds in tanks, or as cartridge-type devices.
