The quantity of solution that passes through a unit of membrane area in a given amount of time. For example, a membrane element might have a flux of 10 liters per minute per square meter (volume unit per time per membrane area). In crossflow filtration, it is the product flow rate through a reverse osmosis, electrodialysis or ultrafiltration membrane.
