The AWWARF, of Denver, has released a book entitled, “Ammonia Release from Chloramine Decay, Effects on Distribution System Nitrification?? by Gregory W. Harrington, et al. In response to new limits on trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, many drinking water utilities are implementing chloramination for distribution system disinfection. An associated concern is nitrification caused by the growth of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in the distribution system. The new book discusses these issues.
